Don't miss the New World Drummers on Saturday evening in Ralph Edwards Park!
The New World Drummers & Dancers is a rhythm and percussion ensemble. The ensemble plays World Beat, a fusion of African, Caribbean, Latin and Middle Eastern rhythms, and songs. Formed by Karuna and Marie Warren in Las Cruces, New Mexico in 1995, the New World Drummers have since performed throughout the Southwest region of the U.S. at fairs, festivals, special events and youth development functions.
The group also includes various styles of dance within its repertoire, including African Dance, Middle Eastern Dance, Afro-Latin Dance and Hip Hop. They are regularly joined by the New World Dance Troupe, Middle Eastern dancers Jewels of the Desert, and Cruces Heads, a break-dancing team. The cutting edge combination of drumming, world beat dance, and break dancing is performed and demonstrated in workshops by request.
The New World Drummers currently consists of the following members: Karuna Richard Warren, Marie Warren, Tom Myers, Rene Romo, Aaron Bushman, Yvette Lopez, Judy Hunt, and Karuna H. Warren. The ensemble has completed its first CD, "The Power of One."
